INTRODUCTION
When 1998 turned its corner, the Internet began to become really popular. You could now safely trade stocks online, and the Internet began to hold great economic significance. Online encyclopedias and various information sites became the standard for research. Million dollar dot-com companies sprang up like weeds over an open field. I could no longer avoid the Internet, and neither could the rest of the world. The Internet can be a very appealing place for those who wish to escape from the confounds of reality and everyday life. The World Wide Web is an extremely vast and anarchic place in which computer networks operate everything. Besides the vast number of computer networks and connections, another key element drives the web as we know today: HTML. Hyper Text Markup Language is the language of the website and the language of the Internet.

The website, is in my opinion, the ultimate medium for expression encompassing the audio and visual common to stereos and televisions, and the interactivity of video game consoles and radio controlled vehicles. Like radio and television, the website can be broadcast to a large audience, but unlike radio and television, can reach all people across the globe. There are no barriers or restrictions. The Internet is designed in the way that a person can always be in touch at every single second.

Ideally, the purpose of a website is to pass information and present enough appeal to attract the general web traffic for repeat visits. Government and commercial websites need to follow this ethic. The appeal can rest in written creativity, or artistic wizardry. A website only works with some sort of following. However, this is not always true because the web begins with its users. A homepage can represent a person's personal interests, hobbies, and experiences without demanding a large following. When you design a personal homepage, you are creating an exclusive page containing information to any passerby willing to spend a few minutes of his or her time viewing about you. Overtime, as you develop a homepage that becomes more unique, you will gain a larger following.

As did many, I started with the standard homepage as well. I posted simple things: my age, my hobbies, the sports I played and the movies/music I admired. It was simple stuff but I was glad that I finally built myself a niche on the World Wide Web.
